9 exchange students based on the credit transfer system arrived in Nagasaki
The student exchange of the 2018 CAMPUS Asia project has finally started. On September 4, 2018, five international students from Shandong University, China and four international students from Sungkyunkwan University, Korea arrived in Nagasaki where the typhoon left some damage.
At Nagasaki University, an introductory program was organized in a similar way as last year for all the exchange students before the third quarter begins in October. On September 5, the students attended orientation hosted by Prof. Akihide Tada to learn about the university in general and to be given information about their class schedule and assignment of supervisors and laboratories. The international coordinators of this project then provided more detailed information including tips, necessary procedures and precautions on living in Japan.
The introductory program in September consists of a series of specialized lectures by professors of the Course of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, who major in the field of infrastructure. The program also included basic Japanese lessons and recreational activities to help the students get accustomed to their life in Japan. In addition, the exchange students joined field trips to Gamadasu dome in Shimabara in the middle of September and to the construction sites in the end of the month with the third graders of the School of Engineering, which encouraged communication with Japanese students and helped the exchange students learn about the infrastructure construction in Japan.
According to a survey conducted afterwards, the program received favorable comments from the nice exchange students. The 90-minute special lectures and construction site visits especially left a strong impression on them. Here are some of the comments from the students.

The staff members of Nagasaki University recognize the effect of the program in helping the exchange students to familiarize themselves with the life in Japan as soon as possible. Nagasaki University will continue to support them in leading a fruitful campus life.
